wish list

1. Make up your wish list from your friends/family.

· I want a new fone

· Pink uggs

· Happiness and wealth for my family
2. List each item and why you "need" it.

· I want a new phone: I have no phone for an emergency

· Pink uggs; don’t really need them

· Happiness and wealth for my family: we all need this

3. Note for each what you think it costs.

Fone; 300

Uggs : one something

Happiness and wealth: ?
4. Write for each how long you think you will use it.

1fone: 2years

2uggs; not sure

3happines and wealth: life time
5. Note for each of you think it's recyclable.

Fone: yes

Uggs: no
6. Note for each if you think you can resell it or reuse it for something else.

I can’t resell anything

7. Add up the total costs of your wish list. I cant really add up the total coast because u can’t really put a price on happiness

8. Identify the "opportunity costs" of these purchases. This means ask yourself what else you could spend the money on.

Share activity:

9. Summarize why you feel good about your wish list.

I feel good about my wish list because I am asking for things that I need things and that I want and also for my families happiness which is health and money.

2011 Christmas

Dog : I want to get a dog for my family, because it gets the family close together. I think the costs would be like a 1,000 dollars. I would have this dog forever.

Clean their room for a week: This would show that i care for my parents. the costs - priceless.

Lotion: for my mom it costs like 12 dollars.

A cologne for my dad with the cost of 50 dollars, he should have it for a year till it ends. And it wouldn't be recyclable.

Energy used in school

[1] Definition of energy consumption: is the consumption of energy or power.

Some tips on reducing energy and saving power in a school:

- Turn Out the Lights: Lighting is one of the largest users of energy in the classroom. If you turn of the lights while the classroom is empty, the school can save money. The school may also want to consider "occupancy sensors" that detected whether there are people in the room. If no one is there, the switch turns off the light.

- Stop the Drips: Hot water is another area that uses a great amount of energy. You can save water and save energy.

- Close the Doors: Leaving doors wide open to a room or building may make it more inviting to come in, but it wastes energy. Don't prop doors open but allow them to close after people walk through the doorway.

- Change the Settings: Change the thermostat settings in rooms to 78 during warmer months and 68 during cooler months. Doing so will lower the heating and air conditioning use, and also save money.

- Reuse and Recycle: Make sure you recycle in the right garbage bins.

- Everyone should get involved: Everyone should get into the routine and everyone should get involved in the school environment to save power and reduce energy.

[3] The state that saves the most energy in Schools: California.

[4] “Cost-Effective Investments

Install energy-efficient lighting systems and controls that improve light quality and reduce

heat gain.

-Upgrade and maintain heating and cooling equipment. Replace chlorofluorocarbon chillers, retrofit or install energy-efficient models to meet a building’s reduced cooling loads, and upgrade boilers

and other central plant systems to energy-efficient standards.

- Use a performance contract to guarantee energy savings from upgrades.

- Work with an energy services provider to help manage and improve energy performance.

- Purchase energy-efficient products like ENERGY STAR qualified office equipment.

- - Install window films and add insulation or reflective roof coating to reduce energy consumption.

” (More tips) .

In my school the school uses too much heater use in the winter, and even when it isn’t that cold outside they still use the heaters, this is bad because it is a waste of money and energy, which we cause bad looks for the environment. To change our school ways, we would have to take some action.

Climate Changes Activities at School

The activities we do at school help out more than at home. A school takes up more light a day than a regular home for 1 week. When we are at school , we should turn off the school computers that are not in use, it'll save the school some money , and help conserve energy. We also have to recycle the milk cartons and start a compost bucket , so we can build gardens on school grounds. We must also return and reuse all texts books so we can save trees from being cut.

My reflection on the project

I enjoyed doing this project although it took a lot of time to research a lot of this information. I learned that the simple things like recycling and conserving energy is not enough to save our planet. I also learned that for things to get better for our Earth, everyone needs to pitch in and help out. Even the little things that we do counts. Like turning off the lights, water, etc. Using laptops instead of desktops to use less energy, print less paper and use the other side of a one sided piece of paper, and so much more. This project made me think more about what I can do to help out more and how many others I can get to get involved. The challenges I learned from doing this project is that there are not enough people participating in going green. Although there are people who are recycling, it isn't enough to help stop climate change. Putting a stop to climate change has to start TODAY. If we keep waiting to make a change, it may be too late. There are so many ways to promote sustainability that everyone can choose their own way of doing it. We can all start making a difference TODAY if we just put in a little effort. Here are some ways, I think, that are easy to do and takes NO time at all:
1.)RECYCLING- This is one of the easiest way to promote sustainability is by recycling products and use mainly recyclable products. Lessening the amount of what goes into our landfills can help greatly improve a community's sustainability. Use biodegradable products and recyclable materials to help in this effort.
2.)WATER CONSERVATION- Promote the use of water drums to store water from rain that can be accumulated from the downspouts connected to the roofs. The water collected can be used for watering plants during dry season. Turn off sprinklers during rainy days to save on water. This saves not only water but money due to lower monthly water bill to pay.
3.)USE OF GREEN PRODUCTS- Using green products in our daily lives can be a great way that a city can promote sustainability. Buy organic foods, use recycled products in businesses, for example using recycled paper, using fluorescent lights instead of incandescent, etc.

I really hope that the human race starts taking action on helping reduce climate change. Things would be so much easier if we lived in a healthy way. Keep recycling and do everything you can to help out. Be one less person to add to climate change.

Climate Change Activities at Home

The activities we do at home can impact our climate change in many ways , and we don't even know. Many things cause climate changes and affect the warmth of the earth without us meaning it to . Have you ever noticed that when you get home all the lights seem to be on and theirs no one home ? Well yeah , 45% of the human population that live an a house or apartment, leave their lights on when no one is home. If we turn off the lights we save a lot of money on the energy bill , and your house will stay cool in the summer when it is hot . When we have the water running for a warm shower or to wash the dishes, we waste clean water. If we turn off the water when not in use not we save money on water bill, but we have more water left for the future days. Also when we don't recycle the used plastic , we pollute more trash and have the United States invade someone else's country so we can transport our trash. If we recycle we can help the economy, making them not duplicate the same item again. With all this pollution we cause global warming affecting many species & other living things.

Reflect's on the Project.

THE WORLD IS IN OUR HANDS

Reflecting on the experience of this project

This project made me think a lot about the future of our planet. This is because the way that Google describes the climate change and what can happen to our planet from pollution and many other things is kind of scary. People don’t take the global warming and climate change seriously; therefore the plant keeps getting worse. I took a survey on this website called “Ecological footprint” and it was about that if the world would live my everyday life, we wouldn’t need 3 to 4 worlds. Therefore this is bad because we only have 1 world, there’s no other world then ours.

From this project I learned to take little steps to making the world a better place. Those steps are involving everyday life; to decrease the use of water, lightening (electricity), and to save energy as well. Also another way to save energy or to help “better the world” is to instead of taking the car, it’s better to walk, or riding a bicycle to school.

These steps helped me improve my lifestyle way, ( taken from my old Post):

Reducing powered products in your house:

1. Turn your
refrigerator down. Put the temperature at least 37 degrees.
2.
Set your clothes washer to the warm or cold water setting, not hot. You will save the power of water.
3.
Make sure your dishwasher is full when you run it and use the energy saving setting, if available, to allow the dishes to air dry.
4. Turn down your
water heater thermostat.
5. Select the most energy-efficient models when you replace your old
appliances.

If every person followed the steps, little by little the world can become a better place, it would make big of a difference because of pollution still in the air, but it still would of make a little improvement on the planet. Doing this project helped me reflect on many things like I said before; it helped my mom on saving money because the bills were really high. Now they’re not as high because we are really strict on the lightning in the house and the TV and laptop use in the house, our electricity bill always be really high, and for that this project helped me reflect in my life.

As we all know we are going to run out of oil in a few years, decades. So if we repeat the steps of our daily life, the oil rates will decrease therefore we will have more oil for the future. This project helped me thi9nk of how we don’t need to waste everything that we have, for example: if we have 2 phones and you use both phones, cut down the other phone and only use one, try to decrease anything that pollutes the air, because even if we use and buy more phones, that’s polluting the air because the factories produce it which pollutes the air. That’s another thing I looked up factories are always going to be there no matter what because that is how stuff is produced, that’s a problem to the leading generation.

Activities to change things at Home on Climate Changes 1

The things you can do at home to reduce and make an effect on climate change is recycling. Recycling helps you reuse the same things you used before , it helps the planet alot because the companys dont have to make new product and the pollutions of the factories dont have to dirty the air of the earth and when u recycle you use it again so itll be a perfect chnage to our enviorment. It helps the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases you release be healthier and better for our earth. Homes can have recycling bins for paper, plastics, metals, electronics can also be recycled and it would be good for everyone. The kids can learn from a young age to recycle and theyll get the hang of it and start doing it more often, and when they go to other homes or other places theyll know what to do and other kids can see what they do and ifluence them more. Itll be a good thing for everything and everyone.

How to promote Sustainability

To promote sustainability, we must use less energy. There are many ways to promote sustainability. One way is through recycling. This is one of the easiest ways to promote sustainability. You can recycle products and use mainly recyclable products. Lessening the amount of what goes into our landfills can help greatly improve a community's sustainability. Use biodegradable products and recyclable materials to help in this effort. Another way to promote sustainability is to conserve water. Promote the use of water drums to store water from rain that can be accumulated from the downspouts connected to the roofs. The water collected can be used for watering plants during dry season. Turn off sprinklers during rainy days to save on water. This saves not only water but money due to lower monthly water bill to pay. Another way to promote sustainability is to use more green products. Using green products in our daily lives can be a great way that a city can promote sustainability. Buy organic foods, use recycled products in businesses, for example using recycled paper, using fluorescent lights instead of incandescent, etc. Another way is to use green building materials. Promote the use of energy efficient building materials for new housing or home renovations. Using recycled materials such as roofing, walls, and floor materials can help save our natural resources for future generations to enjoy. You can also help promote sustainability with less usage of paper. Only copy materials that you really need. Make double-sided copies whenever possible and request double-sided printing at copy centers. Print single-spaced drafts of documents and double-spaced copies for final versions only. Use the "Print Preview" function to view documents before printing. If you print it, pick it up from the printer. Reuse paper that has been printed on 1 side for scratch or note paper. Edit documents on screen rather than printing copies. Save files and e-mail messages electronically. Don't print hard copies of everything. Post information on the Web or use e-mail instead of printing fliers and memos. Another way to help promote sustainability is to use less fuel. Use alternative transportation, including UCSD shuttles, public transportation, carpools or vanpools, bicycling, and walking. Avoid driving in circles to find the closest parking spot. Keep your tires properly inflated for better gas mileage.Avoid sudden starts and stops. Turn off your vehicle instead of idling. Drive a more fuel-efficient vehicle, including hybrid and electric vehicles. One last way to promote sustainability is through the office supplies that you use. You can purchase energy-efficient equipment. Turn off office equipment that is not being used, such as printers and copiers (unless such machines are Energy Star certified units that reduce energy consumption during periods of inactivity).Turn off computers in the evening. During the day, use your computer’s stand-by and hibernate modes instead of screen savers.Use laptop computers if possible. They consume 90% less energy than standard desktop computers. If possible, use ink-jet printers. They consume 90% less energy than laser printers.Select the right-sized copier. A mid-volume copier in a low-volume office can use up to 70% more energy per page than a low-volume machine.Take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible. Avoid leaving an "away" message up all day on your instant messaging program. Be patient in the event of lighting, ventilation, and possibly elevator curtailments (where multiple elevators exist) as facilities staff attempt to manage UCSD's electric load. Be prepared for a possible blackout during a stage 3 alert by shutting down machines that could incur damage, including loss of data, if power should suddenly be lost.

Reducing Power

Everyday once I come to my house my lights is always on, the water is always running because we always clean the house and the laptops TV’s are on 24/7.

To cut down power we would have to reduce the light power to only when it is really needed, because my lights be on even when it is bright in the room which is bad because why else would the light be on if the room is already bright. Not only when we would reduce electricity use would we also save a lot more money. The laptops are always running in my house and so are my T.V’s , this is bad so to reduce this power use we would have to set an amount of time we spend on the TV or laptop. The water use would need to have a limit as well, to save water and get it filtered. [1]

Here are some tips on home improvements, one step closer to saving power etc:

1. Insulate your walls and ceilings. (FUNFACT- If you have electric heat, you might also consider switching to more efficient gas or oil.)
2. Modernize your
windows.
3.
Plant shade trees and paint your house a light color if you live in a warm climate or a dark color if you live in a cold climate.( FUN FACT - Each tree also directly absorbs about 25 pounds of CO2 from the air annually.)
4.
Weatherize your home or apartment, using caulk and weather stripping to plug air leaks around doors and windows. (Ask your utility company for a home energy audit to find out where your home is poorly insulated or energy inefficient.)

5. Select the most energy-efficient models when you replace your old
appliances.

These are some tips I would use to better the world.

Getting around I always use transit, I always use the subway to get to school and to get back to school. This is good because we don’t use a car because you burn more carbon dioxide which gives pollution to the air. It’s always also good to walk, take a bike on the road, anything that doesn’t involve you giving pollution to the air. [3]

A definition of Solar energy from Wikipedia – “
Solar energy, radiant
light and heat from the sun, has been harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-evolving technologies. Solar radiation, along with secondary solar-powered resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass, account for most of the available renewable energy on earth. Only a minuscule fraction of energy is used.” [2]
